disebut langage. Pakar linguistik disebut linguis. Bapak Linguistik modern
adalah Ferdinand de Saussure (1857-1913). Bukunya tentang bahasa berjudul Course
de Linguistique Generale yang diterbitkan pertama kali tahun 1916.

The word
"linguistics" is derived from the Latin word 'lingua', which
means ’language’. Linguistics is the study of the
language or the
science that makes the language as the
object of the study. In French there are three
terms to
describe the language that is:
- Langue: a specific languages.
- Langage: language in general.
- Parole: language in the real forms that are in the form of speech.
Linguistics is often called General Linguistics. That is, the science of Linguistics is not
only examine a language alone, but rather examine the ins and outs of language
in general, which in French is called langage.
Linguistic experts are called linguists. The father of modern Linguistics was
Ferdinand de Saussure (1857-1913). His book about language entitled Course de Linguistique Generale, first
published in 1916.
