A 300-million-year-old
shark has been found by John Paul Hodnett, paleontologist from Northern Arizona
University and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.
The sea monster that was a kind of ancient shark was found in
the Monzano Mountains, east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hodnett first came
across the tip of the shark’s nose that was embedded in a rock before he digs
it up.
Hodnett explained: "We are calling it Godzilla shark
because of their similar physical characteristics.”
According to him, the similar characteristics that resemble
Godzilla are the short and sharp teeth, the disproportionately large dorsal fin,
body skin that similar to a reptile, and its huge size.
Analysis with CT scan showed that this Godzilla shark has
an unusual face; it has teeth on its lips. This species still has teeth on the
mouth but it has extra teeth on the outside.
“So having teeth on the outside of the lip may help
them in grasping and securing prey in the mouth before they kill it. To
put it simply, the extra teeth on the outside of the mouth gave Godzilla shark
a better bite with the jaws it had,” he added.
